About Us
The Leon Valley Public Library serves as a lifelong learning center, community meeting place, local history and genealogy source, and public computer and WIFI access point. We provide programs for children, teens, and adults as well as programs that provide education, cultural awareness, and entertainment to the community.
Our Story
The Leon Valley Public Library was established by local volunteers in 1976, who organized a book drive, raised funds, and gained support from the City of Leon Valley. Initially housed in a 900-square-foot building provided by Ray Ellison Industries, the library opened in May 1977. The Friends of the Library organization was formed, and Joyce M. Trent became the first Library Director in 1981.

As the city grew, a larger facility was needed. Fundraising efforts led by Mayor Irene Baldridge and the Friends of the Library resulted in a new 4,000-square-foot building opening in 1992. The library expanded further in 2001 and 2014, reaching its current size of about 10,000 square feet. Today, the library has seven staff members and continues to benefit from the support of the Friends of the Leon Valley Public Library.
